Humanitarian and Environmental organisation 'Paribartan' and the Bangladesh Working Group on External Debt jointly organised a human chain demanding worldwide halt in the investment on fossil fuel at the Aloka crossing of Rajshahi on Monday morning.

Speakers at the human chain said the top level authorities of the richest fuel companies of the world were attending the UN Global Compact Conference organised by the United Nations this week. The top ranking authorities of 10 richest fuel companies of the world are expected to deliver their speeches in the conference and will submit their plan there. The speakers at the human chain demanded the exclusion of these top fuel company authorities from attending the conference and the stoppage of investment in fossil fuel.

The speakers in the human chain mentioned that once the rich countries of the world were blamed for the global climate change impact but now the country like Bangladesh is also taking a pioneering role in environmental pollution by setting up coal fired power generation units for producing ' cheap electricity'.

They said the environmentalists have been protesting various coal fired power generation units including the Rampal Power Generation unit beside the Sunderbans.

They opted for various alternatives, environment friendly power sources rather than fossil fuels. They mentioned that fossil fuel investors retain all the terms and conditions in their favour to ensure their investment in this field. The human chain organisers demanded to stop all investment in environment-destructive fossil fuel. The speakers called upon the conscious citizens of the world to become more vocal in this connection.

The human chain was addressed, among others, by Director of Paribartan Rashed Ripon, President of Mohila Parishad, Rajshahi, Kalpona Roy, Director of Mohila Ainjibee Samity Adv. Dil Setara Chuni, District Coordinator of Agni project Hasibul Hasan and the President of Rajshahi of Women Entrepreneur Association Anjuman Ara Lipi.
