In observance of the 'World Bee Day', Paba Upazila Sobuj Samhati and the development organisation Barsic jointly organised a human chain at Borgachhi Bazar of Paba Upazila on Wednesday.

In the human chain, the farmers demanded to stop using the banned insecticides and to enact a separate policy to save bee insects in agro-based Bangladesh.

In the human chain farmer Rahima Begum said,' we have no idea which poison causes what kind of damage but after using the poison we could understand what fatal loss we have incurred. The poison we are using was threatening our lives and also destroying our biodiversity.'

Abdul Jabber Mia, President of Borogacchi Krishak Oikkya informed,' We can not stay in our house for the stench of the insecticides. We have been learnt to use insecticides in our crops but do not learn to save the environment. We have turned insecticides dependent. We use a tiny amount of organic pests as an alternative to poison. The government should take measure to increase the use of organic pesticides by the farmers and to stop using of the harmful, toxic chemical pesticides.'

Jewel Ahmed Khan, President of Baranoi Lokosahitya Parishad informed the insecticides and pesticides were destroying everything. The bee insects are getting extinct due to use of the insecticides and the pesticides. There should be a policy for using the poisons, he added.

Shahidul Islamm Regional Co-ordinator of Barsic read out the key-note paper in the function. He said about 75 per cent of foods and crops in the world are pollination dependent. Due to the use of insecticides and the impact of climate change, the nature is getting ravaged and the bee-insects are being extinct which is a threat for the human civilization. He demanded to the government to enact a national policy to save the bee-insects soon and to create mass consciousness about the danger of insecticides.
