An awareness workshop on the importance, necessity, benefits of breast milk and Breast Milk Substitutes Act 2013 and Rules 2017 was held at Jamalpur on Tuesday. It was presided over by Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Akhtar Hossain.
Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Assistant Director of Jamalpur General Hospital, Senior Gynecologist Dr. Fakhria Alam, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Journalist Jahangir Salim and others spoke at the meeting held in Jamalpur Civil Surgeon office Dr. Nazrul Islam meeting room. Jamalpur Civil Surgeon Office Senior Health Education Officer Khandkar Badrul Alam conducted the program. Expert discussion and concept papers were presented by Dr. Mahbub Arefin and Dr. Jaishish Roy, Assistant Director of Health Department and representative of Public Health Nutrition Institute respectively.
In addition to conducting mass awareness activities in workshops to encourage drinking of breast milk, to take strict action against the sale of breast milk substitutes, baby food, commercially prepared baby supplementary food and its use equipment (Control of Marketing) Act and the rules made in 2017 to take strict action against the sale of baby formula, packaged milk powder as baby food. Speakers called on the government.
The workshop was attended by representatives of the health department, livestock, Islamic foundation, NGO representatives, journalists and people from different classes and professions.
