Workshop against gender-based violence held in Jhenaidah

BRAC organized a daylong media mobilization with the members of Jhenidah press club at Family Zone, a local recreation centre in Jhenidah on Saturday.

The workshop was organized in association with Bangladesh Rural Economic Development (BREAD) in establishing just society creating awareness among the people against countrywide repression on gender-based women and children.

BREAD executive director Shahidul Islam presided over the workshop where total of 20 media activists participated. District coordinator of BRAC in Jhenidah Rokeya Begum, Jhenidah press club president M Raihan, BRAC gender justice and diversity programme divisional manager Selim Mollah among others present. The participants said the whole nation was shocked when the incidents of gender-based violence against women and children were increasing alarmingly. They had expressed their satisfaction over the first every verdict “death penalty” for a proved rape incident.

They said the incident of gender-based violence on women and children and some others will be reduced if the people could be aware on the issues. The discussion also given emphasis on involving the men and adolescents to reduce the crime, especially, child marriage in the rural Bangladesh.
