A garment factory named Deeps Apparel Limited in Baklia area of Chattogram city has been closed for the last five months without paying the workers.  600 workers of that April are protesting by blocking the road.  Due to this, ordinary people and businessmen traveling on that road have suffered.

They have been protesting by blocking marine drive road and new chaktai road in shah amanat bridge area of the city since Thursday morning.

The workers said that they will continue their protest by blocking the road until the owners give an assurance to pay the outstanding salary in a meeting.  At that time, the police went and tried to reassure them, but they did not listen.

It is known that Dips Apparel Limited has two factories in Baklia area of the city.  600 labourers worked there to make a living.  But the workers said that they were in trouble due to the decision to close the company.  Meanwhile, they blocked marine drive road and new chaktai road in shah amanat bridge area.

The workers of the factory said that we were not informed anything in advance.  I came to see the notice this morning.  The owner will close the factory.  We are still owed salaries.  On top of that, other factories are not hiring now.  We were worried.  I don't know how to handle the family.

According to the industrial police through the factory owner, there is currently no work order in the garment factory.  The owner is struggling to pay the salaries of 600 workers due to lack of income.  So they are forced to take decisions like closing factories and laying off workers.

Chattogram Industrial Police ASP Md. Salim Newaz said that due to lack of work orders, the factory owners announced to close for the time being.  As a result, around 600 workers started protesting on the Chaktai Ring Road.  Our members are there to bring the situation under control.  We are also talking to the owners to find a solution.
