A worker died from electrocution while constructing a power line in Thakurgaon on Friday. The deceased was identified as Ainul Haque (28).

Locals said that on Friday afternoon, some workers sent by Tayyab Ali, a contractor of Thakurgaon Palli Bidyut Samiti, came to lift the transformer to increase the load of the husking mill in Ghurangachha area.

The mill is owned by Salwar Hossain, a member of Paschim Kujishahar village in Ruhia Union No. 1 of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.

According to the rules, the power line should be shut down and construction work should be done. But without informing the Ruhia Pubis Complaint Centre, the worker climbed a local 11,000-volt steel pillar in the Ghanimaheshpur area at 1pm and tried to block the main connection.

While a worker was working on the pillar, his electrical wire on the main line with the pillar was electrified. At that time, Ainul Haque, who was standing in the water under the pillar,  was electrocuted and died on the spot. Other construction workers hurriedly took away the body of the deceased Ainul Haque.

At that time, locals including Shamim Hossain, in-charge of Ruhia Palli Electricity Complaint Center, rushed to the spot. He said that the work was basically deposit work.

In that case, the incident took place when the line construction workers tried to work by disconnecting the line themselves without giving him a shutdown letter for unknown reasons. The contractor and his people are responsible for this death.

However, when he contacted the contractor Tayyab Ali on his mobile phone, he denied his identity. Meanwhile, Thakurgaon Palli Bidyut Samiti's Assistant General Manager (AGM-MS) Engineer Mahabur Rahman said he did not know anything on this regard.
