The construction work of Khulna University’s (KU) second campus in Paikgachha is advancing fast, with 80 percent of the work already completed, according to the university’s Public Relations and Publications division.
Located on the premises of Paikgachha Agricultural College, the new 25-acre campus is expected to be inaugurated by June 2026. The campus will include academic buildings, dormitories for both male and female students, a mosque, sports field, teachers’ dormitory, administrative building, and Shaheed Minar—all featuring modern facilities.
KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim said that the interim government has directed the transformation of Paikgachha Agricultural College into KU’s second full-fledged campus. All land and legal procedures have been completed with the help of the district administration.
Four departments have been proposed for the new campus: Agricultural Science, Veterinary and Animal Science, Mangrove Forestry and Sustainable Forest Management, and Marine Fisheries. The campus will offer BSc and certificate programmes for diploma graduates in agriculture-related fields.
Every year, around 15,000 students complete diploma-level education in agriculture in Bangladesh. The VC said the new campus would help bridge the gap between diploma education and higher studies while maintaining the same academic standards as the main campus.
To combat the salinity in the region, a water filtration system is being installed to ensure smooth academic activities.
Originally intended to be an affiliated institute, the site was later declared KU’s second campus after administrative review.
The Ministry of Education earlier decided to establish an agriculture college in Paikgachha to promote agriculture, veterinary science, and fisheries education. The campus is being built between Shibbari Bridge and Alamtala.
