There is a magnificent sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the side of the road at the entrance of Chitalmari Upazila Parishad in Bagerhat.

It was built a few years ago on burnt clay plaque by local sculptor Selimuzzaman Thanda Munshi.

This time an eye-catching mural of the Father of the Nation has been constructed at the initiative of the Upazila administration in front of the Upazila Public Library just behind the previous sculpture.

The south-facing mural is just to the right of the main entrance to the Upazila Parishad. There is a wide green courtyard in front of the mural, which is usually used for holding different programmes throughout the year.

The mural of Bangabandhu was made by Chitalmari’s own son, a professional sculptor Partha Pratim Bala, who has experiences in making excellent sculptures in different parts of the country.

While talking to this former student of Fine Arts, he informed, “I have already had the good fortune of making sculptures or murals of the Father of the Nation in different parts of the country. However, I have built this particular mural with extra care as it is situated in my birthplace”.

“I have worked tirelessly over the last few days to successfully complete the construction of this mural. I am proud to have created a mural of the Father of the Nation”, said the young sculptor.

As beautiful as it is, this beautiful mural of Bangabandhu has enhanced the beauty of the Upazila Parishad premises multiple times.

The official inauguration of this magnificent mural is scheduled on historic March 7.
