Women train for self-defence

A group of women have begun training in self-defence techniques in Jhenidah protect themselves from rising sexual harassment and violence.

Programme officer of the department of women affairs (DWA) Khandaker Sharifa Akter inaugurated the weeklong Karate training programme at Sotokan Kartae Do School in the district town on Thursday.

Conducted by Sotokan Kartae Do School management committee member Maysha Rahman, sports organizer Joynal Abedin, Khandaker Abdul Hamid, Shakib Al Hasan among others present.

As many as 40 girl students of various schools and colleges will participate in the Karate learning programme.

Sotokan Kartae Do School director Kazi Ali Ahmed Liku conducting the training course, the organizers said.
