Women’s league should be organised regularly: Sabina

The winners of the SAFF championship for the second time in a row, was awarded with crore take prize money by the sports advisor toght after the team’s arrival in the country on Thursday.

But the women footballers only demand is to organsie the Women’s Football League regularly but the Bangaldesh Football Federation (BFF) failed to maintain the regularity, as the clubs were also less interested to play.

It’s very much important to orhganise the domestic football league for the womenregularly. Not only league, they have no domestic tournament to play. A few numbers of teams were interested to play in the league when the big houses like Bashundhara Kings, Mohammedan Abahani Limited did not agree to play.

Captain Sabina Khatun wants to get rid of this situation. She thinks that it will not be enough playing only a few international matches a year to continue the success. Domestic competitions, inlcuding the women’s leagues is very much essential. Sabina, while talking to a front line media ‘Prothom Alo’, said, “There should be an annual calendar for the girls’s competitions, there should have schedules for domestic and as well as for international assignments round the year.

Sabina, who scored highest eight goals in the last edition and became the best player in the tournament, scored two this time also.

The women from Satkhira, while explaining why personal skills are ats the bottom, refers to the weak domestic structure, 'If you don't give me what I need, you won't get results from me. I want to keep the match on the field. If you keep me in the camp for a whole year, don't give me a match, and after a year or two, if you say before a tournament, “Sabina you have to score 10 goals”; That is not possible. So, before commenting on girls, you should think whether you are giving the players their due or not.

Coach Peter Butler no longer wants to be in charge of the women's team. Sabina's tone of voice is also the advice she gave to the girls at the time of farewell. Butler said, “Bangladesh has become the clear champion, it's a very good thing. But the domestic league has to be competitive. There is no option to keep the girls in the match. It is not enough to camp year-round in Buffe Bhavan. The domestic league-tournament is very necessary.”
