Women of Ghoraghat on the path of progress

Kohinoor Akhter Tuhin of Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat upazila is working relentlessly to bring backward women forward. She has been awarded numerous awards including Osmani Memorial Medal, Hasan Raja Literature and Sufia Kamal Medal.

Tuhin's house is at Raniganj Bazar of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur. She has three children including a son and two daughters. At present she is working with 1,800 helpless women, widows and tribal people in Ghoraghat upazila.

She has her own private organization namef "Nari Mukti Kantha Samaj Kalyan Sanstha". She is also involved with the Ghoraghat Women's Organization. She provides legal assistance and advices to disadvantaged women.

With her own funds, she has been playing a lead role in improving the quality of life for the tribal Mahali families by engaging them in various activities.

During the last floods, she went to the houses of the helpless and delivered food items as well as provided cash assistance to them.

Ghoraghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Rafiul Alam said, “Since joining Ghoraghat Upazila, I have seen that Kohinoor Akhter Tuhin is working for the helpless people".

"Many helpless people in the society have benefited from her initiatives. Under her leadership, the women of Ghoraghat upazila are now far ahead", he added.
