The International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to recognise and honour the contribution of women.

The International Women’s Day was first celebrated on March 19 in 1911 in the United States and several European countries. In 1910, the second International Socialist Women’s Conference was held in Copenhagen, where the idea of an International Women’s Day was mooted by a German socialist Clara Zetkin. In 1913, International Women’s Day was shifted to March 8. In 1975, during International Women’s Year, the United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2024 is ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ and the theme was taken targeting economic disempowerment. However, the campaign theme for the same year is ‘Inspire Inclusion’.
