Women booters depart for Jordan

Bangladesh national women football team left Dhaka for Amman on Monday to play two friendly matches.The matches against Jordan and Indonesia are part of their preparation for the Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to take place in June.  

BFF in a press release on Monday said, “Bangladesh National Women’s Football team is en route to Amman, Jordan, to participate in two international FIFA friendly matches during the official FIFA Women's International Match Window.” 

The 30-member Bangladesh contingent including 23 booters and seven coaching staff departed on Monday morning. According to information from BFF, Bangladesh team on their way to Amman will have transits in Manama, Bahrain and scheduled to land in Amman on same day.  

Out of the two friendlies, Bangladesh women’s team will play their first match against the host Jordan on May 31 and the second match against Indonesia on June 3.  

Meanwhile, BFF, who announced a 23-member squad for the friendly matches on Sunday, included nine rebel booters. The rebellious nine booters who had protested for the removal of head coach Peter Butler in February while the five other rebel players, who were the premier performers in the SAFF Championship winning team including Sabina Khatun, leader of the protesters against Butler, was left out. 

After few days of playing the friendlies in Jordan, Bangladesh will compete in the Asian Cup Qualifiers. Bangladesh have been slotted in Group C and will face Myanmar, Bahrain and Turkmenistan in the qualifiers, which will run from June 23 to July 5.
