Woman gets life term in drug case

A court in Jashore district on Wednesday sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment on charge of her involvement of possession 64 bottles contraband phensidyl and 300 grams Ganja six years ago. The court also fined her taka 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more jail.

District and Session judge of Narail Munshi Md Moshier Rahman found her guilty to the drug charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of her in the court.

The convict was identified as Rikta Parvin,45, a resident of Laskarpur village in Auria union of Narail sadar upazila. Public Prosecutor of Narail judge court Md Emdadul Islam said the judge acquitted three accused of the case as the allegation against them was not proved.

The prosecution story, in brief, is that police recovered 64 bottles of contraband phensidyl and 300 grams Ganja on September 8, 2015. Police submitted charge sheet accusing four persons including Rikta Parvin. After examining the record and 16 witnesses, district and session judge Munshi Md Moshier Rahman, handed down the verdict in a crowded court.
