Woman gets life in drug case

A Sirajganj court on Sunday sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for possessing heroin in Kamarkhanda upazila in the district.

At the same time, the woman has been fined Tk 10,000, in default of payment, she will have to suffer one year more of imprisonment.

Apart from this, the the convict has also been sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Tk 5,000 for possession of cannabis, and two years' of rigorous imprisonment with Tk 5,000 for possession of liquor.

Sirajganj district and session judge court judge Fazle Khoda Nazir announced the verdicts at around 11:30 in presence of the convict.

The convict Sabina Khatun, 37, was a resident of Jamtail Uttarpara village under Kamarkhanda upazila.

Abdur Rahman, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court, confirmed it.

According to the PP, on November 10, 2016, RAB raided Sabina Khatun's house in Jamtail Uttarpara village under Kamarkhanda upazila on the information of selling heroin, cannabis and liquor. At that time, the drug dealer Sabina Khatun ran away after sensing the presence of RAB. During the raid, 48 grams of heroin, 1.8 kg of cannabis and 14 liters of distilled liquor were seized from the spot.

In the incident, RAB-12 DAD Pradeep Kumar Saha filed a case with Kamarkhand Police Station as the plaintiff. Later, Sabina Khatun was arrested by RAB.
