A Chapainawabganj court has sentenced a woman to life-term imprisonment and fined her Tk 10,000, in default, one year more jail in a drug related case.
The convicted woman is Asia alias Asma, 48, wife of Rezaul Karim of Chapai Maheshpur village under Gobratala union of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila.
Senior Session Judge of Chapainawabganj Md Adeeb Ali pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the prosecution story, Chapainawabganj Sadar Thana police arrested Asma from her residence with 70 grams of heroin in the evening on December 4, 2020.
On the same day, sub-inspector (SI) Utpal Kumar Sarkar filed a case against her.
Investigating officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Obaidul Haque submitted charge sheet against her to the court on January 9, 2021.
After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the verdict, the court sources said.
