Woman beaten to death, 4 held

A woman named Nasima Begum, 38, of Mahandi village was allegedly beaten to death in Satkhira’s Tala upazila while she was trying to protest against her husband’s beating.

The deceased Nasima Begum is the wife of Nazer Sheikh of Mahandi village under Tala upazila and accused Monirul Moral is the son of Karim Moral of the same village.

Witnesses said that several people, including Monirul Moral of the area was beating up Nasima’s husband Nazer Sheikh on Monday morning. When Nasima Begum tried to save her husband, she was also beaten up by them severely.

Nasima died at around 8:00 am on Tuesday. There are marks of injuries on various parts of her body. Tensions are running high in the area. Police have visited the spot.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tala Police Station Mehdi Russell said, “I have visited the scene. Four persons including Nazrul Islam Moral, Mazharul Moral, Rehena Begum and Polly Begum of Mahandi village have been detained for questioning”.

He added, the body has been sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal action will be taken at the end of the investigation.
