Winners are in spotlight

The recipients of the Bangla Academy Literary Award 2023, which recognizes 16 people for their outstanding contributions to various facets of Bangla literature, have been revealed.

The winners' names were revealed by the Bangla Academy. At the official opening of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2024, which got underway yesterday in the Bangla Academy area, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented the awards.

Winners' names and the awards they received in each category have already been announced.

Shamim Azad took home the prize for her poetic accomplishments.

Salma Bani and Nuruddin Jahangir, 

both novelists, shared the prize for best fiction writer.

Masud Pathik and Mrittika Chakma, two playwrights, received recognition for their exceptional contributions to the field.

In the children's literature category, Tapankar Chakrabarty was recognized, and ornithologist Inam Al Haque was honored for his contributions to science and the environment.

The award was given to Tapan Bagchi in recognition of his noteworthy contributions to folklore.

Saifullah Mahmud Dulal and Md. Mojibur Rahman were honoured for their research on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, while Afroza Parvin and Asaduzzaman Asad were recognised for their writings on the Liberation War.

Awarded in the biography category was Ishak Khan.
