In a significant step towards inclusivity, the Panchagarh District Disabled Organization distributed wheelchairs at a ceremony held at the Tentulia Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center on Monday.
The event, presided over by Tentulia Upazila Islamic Foundation Field Supervisor Khalid Saifullah, aimed at providing mobility and fostering integration for individuals with disabilities.
Md. Shahjahan, the District Disabled Affairs Officer, attended as the chief guest. The special guests included Dr. Deepak Kumar Roy, a Clinical Physiotherapist, Abdul Jabbar, Assistant Physiotherapist, and Md. Mariam Akhter, Chief Mixer of Bhajanpur Disabled School.
In his keynote address, the chief guest, Md. Shahjahan, delivered a powerful message of inclusion and respect. He emphatically stated that persons with disabilities are not a burden on society.
"They are also human beings like us, but by the will of the Creator, they have to live their lives as disabled people," Shahjahan said. "Therefore, we will not consider them a burden but will make arrangements to integrate them into the mainstream of society and lead a normal life."
He further emphasized that achieving this goal requires sustained cooperation from both families and the broader community.
The distribution event was hailed as a practical move to empower the recipients, granting them greater independence and facilitating their participation in social and economic activities.
