The episode title for Stranger Things season 5, episode 1 has been officially revealed. Stranger Things season 4, which was released in two installments, wrapped in July of this year. The nostalgic '80s-inspired show, known for introducing and then killing beloved characters, continued this formula in the season 4 finale, seeing newcomer Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) die heroically and also striking down series regular Max (Sadie Sink). Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have always been vocal about ending the popular sci-fi series with four or five seasons, so it was of little surprise to fans of Stranger Things that season 5 was confirmed to be the series' last.

Since the series kicked off, November 6 has officially been dubbed "Stranger Things Day" by Netflix due to the show's inciting event, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) going missing, occurring on that date. The streaming platform has taken to releasing content such as gag reels and tidbits about future seasons on Stranger Things Day, so viewers were looking forward to exciting announcements about the series after the jam-packed ending. This year included a reveal about season 5's first episode, and it has already sparked theories about its meaning.

The official Netflix Twitter account posted the season 5 episode 1 title as their final flourish on Stranger Things Day, adding a photo of the first page of the script. Since production is still in the early stages for season 5, with filming set to begin next year, the episode title for the final season - "The Crawl" - is an enticing though vague piece of information. However, as the title was previously leaked, some expressed disappointment that they had waited in anticipation for 'old news,' ultimately frustrated about the minimal nature of the reveal. However, many creative responses and theories spawned from the title reveal, with Stranger Things fans debating whether "The Crawl" could be referring to Eddie, Max, or a Dungeons and Dragons term.
