The wells set up by the Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority are contributing to the farmers.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture at Joypurhat Barandra area. Small wells are also contributing to agriculture through the initiative of the Multipurpose Development Authority in Barandra. In the meantime, thousands of farmers in the region are directly enjoying the benefits of these wells.
As a result of global climate change, the ground water level is declining. Farmers in the Barendra region were facing the greatest loss and threat in this regard. Before the arrival of the hand mill, well was a reliable source of potable water in the region. However, with the passage of time, these wells have been lost to various technologies including submersible pumps and deep tube wells.
After a long time, the Barendra multipurpose development authority is feeling the need for wells for other works including agricultural work in the hallway. As a result, small well is being used for other works including irrigation work in Barendra area. A well is a place where soil is dug in a circular shape at the bottom of the ground water level to retain leaking water. A tank is first drawn through these water LLPs. Then, using solar energy, the water is being pumped through the machine to the house, household and agricultural work.
According to the Office of the Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) at Joypurhat Barendra, 10 solar powered wells have been constructed in the area at a cost of Taka one crore 20 lakh in Joypurhat sadar and Panchbabi upazilas. With the help of these wells, facilities are being provided to the people of the two upazilas in a land of about 10 hectares.
With the help of solar power, cucumber, potato, tomato, pumpkin, rice, cabbage, cauliflower, rice, pumpkin, broccoli and beans are being planted in the field. As a result, daily life of the local farmers has
been changed.
According to Sajon Ashraf, Deputy Assistant Engineer, Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) Joypurhat, 10 wells have been constructed in different areas of Joypurhat Sadar and Panchbabi Upazilas under small scale crop production project. The project is being implemented by BMDA under the Ministry of Agriculture. In the dry season it is very efficient and farmer friendly.
Local farmers are happy because they are getting irrigation facilities free of cost. And many beneficiary farmers are benefiting through these wells. Hundreds of marginal farmers of the two Upazilas are benefiting from the benefits of cultivating different crops at low cost through wells.
