Week-long tree fair kicks off in Tangail

Under the theme ‘Let’s plant trees for a greener Bangladesh,’ a seven-day tree plantation campaign and fair began on Monday  in Tangail. 

The event, held at Shaheed Smriti Municipal Park, is jointly organised by the Tangail District Administration and the Forest Department.

Deputy Commissioner Sharifa Haque inaugurated the fair at 10am. Among the dignitaries present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Abdullah Al Mamun, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahida Akter, and Divisional Forest Officer Abu Naser Mohsin Hossain.

The inauguration was led by a colorful rally from the DC office premises, marking the start of the fair. 

A total of 47 stalls are participating, showcasing various plant species, conservation tools and green technologies.

Speaking at the opening session, held at the DC’s conference room, DC Sharifa Haque emphasised the importance of community-driven afforestation to tackle climate change. The event also featured speeches by environmental science experts from Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University.
