The week-long “Jatra Festival 2024”, organised by Drama and Film Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), will begin at the Mukto Manch of Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.
“Jatrapala” is spreading by embracing tradition, thoughts, and values. One of the oldest branches of traditional folk culture, “Jatrapala” has always been considered a culture of the masses. This kind of folk culture works as a mirror of real development in the hearts of the grassroots people.
After the ‘July Revolution’, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy is working to overcome the stagnation and restore vitality. For that purpose, the festival requires the active presence of all levels of society in the arts. The theme of the upcoming event is “If you are afraid, then you are the end. If you stand up, then you are Bangladesh”, said a press released.
A total of seven jatra troupes registered from different districts of the county will perform based on historical and social events from 1 to 7 November. A troupe will perform a pala each day from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
The inaugural ceremony of the festival will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday. Israfil Majumdar, a participant in the July-uprising, will be present as the chief guest on the occasion. Eminent Jatra artiste Anima Dey will attend the event as the special guest and BSA Drama and Film Department Director Faiz Zahir will deliver the welcome speech with Shilpakala Academy Director General Syed Jamil Ahmed in the chair.
The festival will remain open to all.
