Weavers busy making handloom items in Chuadanga

Weavers of villages Ershadpur, Foridpur, Gobindopur and Kumary in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district are passing busy time for producing napkin (gamchha) and towel from handloom industries on ahead of Eid-ul- Fitr. 

It may be mentioned here, the produced items are being sent to the wholesalers of Chuadanga and Meherpur district. Besides small traders are purchasing the items from them directly. 

From 1955 to 1980 about 2000 weave factories were in the villages. Weavers produced lungi, genji, sarees, toale and bed covers working day and night.  

These were sold all over the country. Demand of these product was very much high as quality was maintain.  

It is learnt, about 210 weavers are in the industry to hold for keeping their ancestral profession. About 1,500 workers are employed here directly and indirectly. The loom houses are in stand for the witness of Tat area. 

Abdul Goni, a weaver of village Ershadpur in Alamdanga upazila said,   price of raw materials, dyes, chemicals and yarn have increased but the price of woven cloths do not increase compared to that. 

Abdus Salam of village Ershadpur in the upazila said, tatis have been producing the items all over the year, sell these and maintain their families from the profit.
