Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made it clear that as an independent and sovereign country, Bangladesh will never bow down to any external interference. She came up with this bold statement while addressing a special Darbar (assembly) arranged at her office in the capital Dhaka on Sunday, marking the 37th founding anniversary of the Special Security Force (SSF).
Bangladesh is following the foreign policy, framed by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, “Friendship to all and malice towards none”. The ruling Awami League has been working to make friendship with imperative ones and doing whatever necessary to develop the country. Therefore, other countries in the world do not need to give prescriptions to Bangladesh on democracy, human rights and justice as these are deeply rooted in the country’s history.
Bangladesh always welcomes constructive suggestions from foreign friends. Bangladesh faced obstacles and conspiracies time and again, but it has successfully overcome these.
The government wants Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) full-strength participation in the national election, but the BNP looks for excuses to flee from the polls. The party’s (BNP) target is not to take part in elections rather they want to foil the election and make it questionable.
Foreign countries must
refrain from interfering
in our internal issues
BNP leaders’ comments give the impression that they want guarantee of wining and if they get it, they will join polls otherwise they would not do so. It seems like someone coming from outside will take the BNP to power through the cradle. But it is impossible to assume power by lobbying foreigners. There is no scope left in Bangladesh to go to power through the acts of an agent.
The foreign and home ministries have obtained many documents and papers about how much money BNP paid to the US lobby firms over the last seven years. Besides, BNP leaders are going to their local and foreign masters and lodging complaints against the Awami League government.
Since its foundation, BNP has been doing politics in the country with support from anti-liberation forces and its foreign lobbyists who had opposed the country’s liberation war in 1971.’ After being isolated from the mass people of the country and finding no way, the party is now engaged in disseminating negative propaganda against the country and the government as well in many ways.
Taking the chance many influential foreign countries like USA, UK and European countries always make attempt to interfere in our internal issues like general elections and democracy. Besides, some foreign ambassadors and diplomats working here make statements against the government regarding the internal affairs of Bangladesh. Such interference by foreign countries is very “unfortunate and unacceptable”. Therefore, foreign countries must refrain from interfering in our internal issues.
