We the general people of the country believe in peace, not in conflict. We do not want to see any conflicting situation that has been created on quota reform issue. Therefore, the ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance and opposition political parties in the country must do everything possible to establish peace.

We do not want see any more dead body. We do not want to see violence because the general people, education, business and all other sectors suffer most for it. Our goal should be to protect people from the suffocating situation and sufferings.

The doors of Ganabhaban are open. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that she wants to sit with protesters and she wants to hear them. Demands of students for quota reform have been accepted.

We also expect responsible behavior from all. The prime minister also asked the authorities concerned to release the detained general students. She also assured trial of each killing during the anti-quota movement.

As Sheikh Hasina agrees to hold talks, the protesters can go any time (to Ganabhaban). The HSC students (detained after the mayhem) have already been released.

Those involved in killings and massive destruction across the country must be brought to justice through proper investigation. Those who have been involved in such acts, whoever they might be, maybe police or any other people, must be brought to book through proper investigation.

We urge the government to exercise restraint so that all demonstrations can take place peacefully. We believe the authorities will do everything to uphold the right to demonstrate peacefully. All should understand that the students are not the opponent of the government in any situation right now.

In the wake of fresh violence, Sheikh Hasina has assigned Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Joint General Secretaries -- Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim to sit with the coordinators of the ongoing Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and calm the situation.

We think the assigned Awami League leaders on behalf of the government must hold discussions with the leaders of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to resolve the ongoing crisis right now. Sheikh Hasina is also holding talks with different stakeholders like vice-chancellors of universities, principals of colleges, business leaders, members of the civil society, academics and different professional bodies to resolve this crisis.

The scope of the Judicial Probe Commission has been extended for proper investigation of each killing. Any country or organisation, including the United Nations, can join the probe. As the need for peace becomes more urgent, there is no option but to hold talks with the protesters to this end immediately.
