Information and Broadcasting Minister as well as Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud said, “BNP wants to send Begum Khaleda Zia abroad on the pretext of her illness so that she can do politics illegally from there, which is what Tarique Rahman is doing. We understand your tricks.”

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the tri-annual conference of 10 units of 10 wards of Darussalam police station of Dhaka North Metropolitan Awami League at the premises of Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial in Mirpur on Sunday afternoon. “BNP leaders talk a lot about Khaleda Zia's health, but for the last one year, Begum Zia has been under their care and is being treated at the Evercare Hospital of Begum Zia's choice,” he said.
Hassan said, “They are responsible if anything happens to him. BNP wants to confuse the people by saying various things, but people will not be confused.”
Dr Hasan added, “Now it seems that the politics of BNP is no longer for the people, only for the health of Khaleda Zia. If you listen to the statements of BNP leaders for the last 15-20 days, you will see that there is no other statement, they are constantly saying what happened to Khaleda Zia.”
Awami League Joint General Secretary addressing the party leaders and workers at the time said, “Everyone should take measures keeping their eyes and ears open so that no one can conspire. Opportunity seekers are not needed in the team. There is no need for those who want to join Awami League to save their backs, those who want to do so to occupy land or to protect occupied land or for the purpose of acquiring wealth. Awami League needs those who believe in our ideals, objectives and principles and want to form an Awami League.”
