A seminar on 'Urban Development and Management' was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday. Supported by THE PLAN LAB, JU Urban and Regional Planning department organised the seminar at the Seminar room of Jahir Raihan Auditorium. Treasurer of Jahangirnagar University Prof. Sheikh Md. Monzurul Huq inaugurated the programme as chief guest.
In the inaugural speech, he said, "One of the major aspects of management is awareness. But the general public is not aware of this. Due to unconsciousness, we occupy public places and destroy the environment by building infrastructure. So despite our infrastructural development, we are moving towards environmental catastrophe. We should utilize the urban development process properly in urbanization."
Presided over by the Chairman of JU Urban and Regional Planning department Prof. Dr. M. Shafiq Ur Rahman, Dean of Social Science faculty Prof. Rasheda Akter addressed the function as special guest. Mirza Shawkat Ali of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Architect Iqbal Habib, Prof. Kabirul Bashar of JU Zoology department, Engineer Shahadat Hossain, Architect Ishtiak Jahir and Prof. Farid Ahmed of JU Philosophy department delivered the keynote speech at the programme on different topics.
Conducted by Samia Islam Sara and Yasin Khondakar of Urban and Regional Planning department (47 batch), over 150 teachers and students of the department took part at the function.
