State Minister for Water Resources Zahid Faruk said that all the significant work that needs to be done to improve thehaor has to be done in dry season. When it rains simultaneously in the Meghalaya and Barak basins of India, the region is affected by the water pressure.
Therefore, dredging of tributaries should be done according to the need to increase its navigability and increase its water holding capacity in monsoon. A water reservoir must be built to be used in the dry season for cultivation, he said.
The minister said this while inspecting the repair, reconstruction work of submerged dams in various haorsunder the revised policyof Chhatak, Dharmapasha and Jamalganjupazilas of Sunamganj district today.
Earlier, he inspected the rupture of the right bank of Baterkhal in Gobindaganj of Chhatakupazila. In this regard, he directed to prepare dredging and defense work projects. Local MP Mahibur RahmanManik was present at the time.
The state minister further said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, wants to alleviate the sufferings of poor and miserable people and make them smile. She will do everything for the people. In his foresight, the haor damage caused by flash floods has been declining since 2018.
“She has undertaken mega projects in this area for the welfare of the people of haor. 14 canals of the district will be re-excavated. We often visit the haor project and the quality of work is actually good as per inspection," he said in response to a question from reporters.
