Authorities concerned have conducted a drive in a market at Hazari Goli in Chattogram and seized date-expired insulin along with tetanus vaccine worth of Tk 9 lakh.

Chattogram district administration, directorate of drug administration and kotwali thana police conducted the drive on Thursday.

During the drive, wasted insulin worth of Tk 3 lakh was seized from Pacific Traders in Chittara Complex as the trader did not store the insulin in a correct condition.

Insulin packet should generally be stored in the refrigerator at 2-8°C.

But, the trader stored insulin at a normal temperature, resulting in reducing the effectiveness of insulin long ago.

Owner of the Pacific Traders Pallab Biswas was also fined Tk 20,000 in this regard.

The authorities then conducted drive at Nirupama Drug House and Rajib Drug House and seized wasted insulin worth of Tk 6 lakh.

Besides insulin, Rajib Drug House stored a large quantity of tetanus vaccines at a normal temperature.

Each owner was fined Tk 30,000.

Executive Magistrate Prateek Dutta said that they seized insulin worth Tk 9 lakh and realised Tk 80,000 in fine from three shop owners for not storing medicine rightly.

“Many lodged complains that insulin from certain pharmacies did not work. In fact, they stored unauthorised insulin,” he said.
