The Russia-Ukraine war is having a rippling effect on the global supply chain, fuelling dramatic cost increases and product shortages around the world. During all important meetings in the UN General Assembly held in September, the world leaders had also apprehended that a famine or food insufficiency may hit the world in 2023 due to the war.

The devastating knock-on effects are only growing as the conflict drags on, with rising food and fuel prices and worsening food crises, the Red Cross has warned. The conflict is a major blow to the global economy that will hurt growth and raise prices. Beyond the suffering and humanitarian crisis because of Russia-Ukraine war, the entire global economy will feel the effects of slower growth and faster inflation. The war has already pushed people to a critical breaking point across the globe. The sanctions and counter sanctions are deeply hurting people around the globe, more so, those in the countries at direct conflict, and those in the developing and least developed world.

There is no  alternative to

 increase food  production

and make arrangements for

 preserving food

Keeping the global crisis in mind, we all have to make all-out efforts so our country never has to face any situation like famine and food insufficiency. In this regard, the government must put concentration on making the economy vibrant overcoming all challenges.

Bangladesh has fertile land and adequate manpower. If we take initiative from now on, Bangladesh would never face famine and food insufficiency like situations in coming days. Apart from the government, we hope that country’s all people will do their best and work sincerely to overcome crisis. Our political parties should have strong commitment and solidarity in finding ways to overcome the crises caused by Russia-Ukraine war that has rattled the global economy and added fresh challenges to Covid-19 recovery and SDG implementation process.

The government will have to extend all-out support to the country’s farmers for producing more food to tackle any challenge as the world community is apprehending a deep crisis next year. Increasing food production has become inevitable as the economic recession will be deepened and food crisis will appear.

There is no alternative to increase food production and make arrangements for preserving food. All should exercise austerity in every sector and refrain from increasing any unnecessary expense. We all should be more economical and aware of using everything alongside doing savings whatever we can.
