Vitamin-A plus campaign in Ctg kicks off on Feb 20

Vitamin-A plus campaign will be held in 15 upazilas of Chattogram on February 20.  The campaign has set a target of feeding vitamin A capsules to 8 lakh 4 thousand 564 children in Chattogram district.

 This information was given at the district level journalist orientation workshop in the conference room of the Civil Surgeon's office on Thursday afternoon.

 This campaign will be conducted in 600 wards of 200 unions of 15 upazilas. 91 thousand 918 children aged 6-11 months and 7 lakh 12 thousand 646 children aged 12-59 months will be fed vitamin-A capsules.

 Civil surgeon Dr. Elias Chowdhury said, "We have taken all measures for vitamin-A plus campaign.  This activity will continue throughout the day on February 20.

 The workshop was attended by MODC Dr Nurul Haider, Health Supervisor Sujan Barua.

  Civil surgeon Dr. Mohammad Elias Chowdhury said that vitamin 'A' capsules reduce all types of mortality including child malnutrition, prevention of blindness, normal growth of the body, reduction of mortality due to measles and diarrhoea.  The use of edible oil rich in vitamin 'A' in family cooking is very beneficial for children.  For the nutrition of mother and child, pregnant and post-partum mothers should eat more vitamin A-rich animal and vegetable foods than usual.  All kinds of preparations have been taken to make this program successful.  People will be informed by miking everywhere so that no child is left out of vitamin 'A' capsule feeding.  Vitamin 'A' capsules can be given to the child from any vaccination center including railway station, bus terminal, ferry ghat and another ghat while traveling.  All children aged 6-59 months should take vitamin A capsules every 4 months.  Government institutions, public representatives, Ansar-VDP and NGO organizations will work to continue the promotion of the National Vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign.  Government officials, field workers and volunteers will be engaged in feeding vitamin 'A' capsules to the children.  This program will be successful with the sincere cooperation of all.

 Its mentioned that in Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) area to the target of children aged 6-11 months has been set at 81 thousand and the target of children aged 12-59 months has been set at 4 lakh 55 thousand.
