Around 50 students of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University formed a human chain on Tuesday demanding capital punishment for rapists.
They made the human chain in front of university main gate at 12.00 pm. From the human chain they demanded seven demands including capital punishment for rapists, establishment of a separate speedy tribunal to complete the trial of rape cases within 60 days, free medical treatment and compensation for victims, installation of CCTV camera on streets and completion of all previous rape cases within 6 months.
Fron the human chain Hasan Mahmud a final year student of law department said, “Rape cases have been stuck in court for years and due to lack of justice rape has now become an epidemic in Bangladesh.
At present no woman is safe in our country. To end this situation we demand to ensure capital punishment for rapist.”
Besides, the students of different school and colleges of Gopalganj also formed two separate human chains on Tuesday demanding exemplary punishment for rapists.
Under the banner of ‘General Students’ more than 100 students formed the human chain in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office of Gopalganj and Gopalganj press club.
