A video of receiving kickback by ASI Harunur Rashid of Tahipur police outpost under Bagmara Police station of Rajshahi becomes viral in the social media.
Following the incident, the authorities of Rajshahi district police have suspended the ASI from his job and closed him to Rajshahi Police Line on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, people of the locality alleged of extortion, realising money by threatening people in false cases, arrest- business and drug-peddling by the closed ASI.
The video of realising kickback from people is learnt to snap during the period of lockdown. Shop keepers of the area informed it was mandatory to pay a kickback to ASI Harun by them to keep their shops open during the lockdown. ASI harun, however, declined to comment in this connection.
Local people informed, during the lockdown, ASI Harun held drug peddlers Lathe Azad with Heroin and Yaba but he was released soon in exchange of a huge kickback. He also held drug peddler Santan Das of village Ramrama Hajrapukur with drugs and released him in exchange of money. It is alleged, ASI Harun also arrested Imon, a student of Tebaria village of Shilmaria union under Puthiaupazila in a fabricated case of recovering 10 Yaba tablets from his possession. Family members of Imon informed, as a sequel of a family feud, the rival neighbours bribed Harun to arrest Imon in the fabricated case.
It is further alleged, ASI Harun realised Taka 70,000 from a government employee of Ramrama village under Goalkandi union by involving him in a false rape case by a woman. Local people alleged, the main job of ASI Harun was to realise extortion from shops of the area and to realise kickback from the drug peddlers.
The video of Harun which has become viral shows during the lockdown ASI enters into a Mobile Phone shop at Tahirpur Bazaar with a burning cigarette in the fingers and demanding Taka 3,000 kickback from the shop keeper. Later he settled to take taka 2,000 but after counting money, he demands taka one thousand more and at last left the shop by realising the full demanded amount( Tk.3,000).
IftekhayerAlam, Additional Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi in this connection informed, after learning the incident, ASI Harun has been closed to Police Line from Tahirpur police outpost under the direction of the Superintendent of Police. The investigation has been started about the activities and the allegations against ASI Harun.
