Bangladesh spin bowling consultant Daniel Vettori is expected to lose the most due to the coronavirus pandemic as BCB is not ready to pay him as he works on day-to-day basis, reports agencies.

There are nine foreign coaches working in Bangladesh  with head coach Russell Domingo, batting coach Neil McKenzie along with fielding coach Ryan Cook and physio Trevor Julian Calefato all coming from South Africa.

Apart from them there is spin bowling coach New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori while the pacers are guided by Caribbean pace bowling coach Otis Gibson. Recently English physio trainer Nicholas Trevor Lee joined while Indian computer analyst Shrinivas Chandrasekaran.

However, apart from Vettori all the other foreign recruits are hired on monthly basis as presently the contract states that the former New Zealand spinner is committed to a 100-day period with Bangladesh ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia later this year. As per the deal, Vettori receives USD 2500 per day.

That implies BCB have to pay Vettori USD two and a half million (BDT two crore 12 lakh 50 thousand) for his 100-day service to Bangladesh cricket team. Due to the coronavirus, Bangladesh is also facing the same situation as the whole world is facing. So, will Daniel Vettori be able to work with the board for the complete 100 days.

Though BCB announced that there won’t go for any pay cuts for their salaried staffs it will not be the case for Vettori as he is contracted on day to day basis.

"No, the contract is very clear. In the contract paper, it is written that he has to work on 100-working days. Whatever the reason occurs, Vettori will get paid as many days as he will work with the national team, he will get his salary," BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus was quoted in Bengali web portal.

“Basically, our agreement with Vettori is on a daily basis work. The Kiwi spin coach has been contracted to work with our national team for 100-days a year. For this reason, he has been paid a large sum for his per working day. Now, as many days he will work, he will receive the salary on those days. However, this rule does not apply to all foreign national coaching staff. They have been contracted on a monthly basis. They will get paid monthly," BCB Chairman of media committee Jalal Yunus said.

Which means Russell Domingo, Neil McKenzie, Otis Gibson and the rest of the coaching staff, even the contracted players will not be affected due to the impact of coronavirus.
