Chattogram Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan said that all types of ships have been sent to outer anchorage from Chattogram port jetty to deal with Cyclone Sitrang. Besides, all types of lighter vessels have been removed from the port channel. However, he also said that some internal product fluctuations are in progress.
He said these things to reporters after an emergency meeting on Monday morning due to the threat of Cyclone Sitrang.
Port chairman said that all operations of the port have been stopped. However, in the morning, only those trucks which entered the port to pick up the imported goods are being delivered. These works will be stopped in the evening. The leave of all port officials has already been cancelled.
All agencies including Navy, Coast Guard and Naval Police have been directed to work from their respective locations to deal with the cyclone. Boring shelter has been opened from Sadarghat to Kalurghat bridge section of Karnaphuli river. Lighter ships are already stationed there. A control room has been set up by the port.
Meanwhile, Chattogram district administration has taken comprehensive preparations to deal with the cyclone. In order to reduce the damage, the health department has kept 5 medical teams in each upazila health complex in addition to 5 medical teams in the city's 250-bed district hospital. A control room has also been set up by the district police.
