Vegetables, chicken prices up

Prices of vegetables, chicken and chillies have gone up during the week. The price of green chilli has gone up by Tk 60 per kg and it is being sold at Tk 150 per Kg. 

The situation has been observed after visiting a good number of kitchen markets in the capital on Friday.

The price of most vegetables in the market has gone up by Tk 5 to Tk 10 per kg. In these markets per kg (round) eggplant Tk 60, cabbage and cauliflower Tk 50 per piece, bitter gourd Tk 80 per piece, tomato Tk 100 per Kg, bean Tk 180 per Kg, string bean Tk 80 per Kg.

Wax squash was being sold at Tk 40 per piece, pumpkin at Tk 50 per piece, snake gourd at Tk 40 per Kg, pointed gourd at Tk 40 Kg, potato at Tk 20 per Kg, and spiny gourd at Tk 60 per kg.

While talking to this correspondent, Jamal, a vegetable trader at Rampura Kitchen market said, “Usually vegetable supplies during September and October goes down as a result vegetable price goes up. On the other hand, recent flood has also damaged a good number of crops land.” 

Potatoes were being sold at Tk 20 per kg. Onions were being sold at Tk 45 per kg. The price of green chilli has gone up in the market. The price has increased by Tk 60 per kg. Papaya is being sold at Tk 40 per kg, cucumber are being sold at Tk 60 to Tk 70 per Kg. 

Besides, dried chillies were being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 250 per kg, garlic at Tk 80 to Tk 130 per kg and ginger at Tk 100 per kg. Turmeric was being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 220 per Kg. Indian pulses are being sold at Tk 90 per kg, local pulses were being sold at Tk 110 per kg.

In these markets, sugar is being sold at the previous price of Tk 80 per kg. Besides, packets of sugar were being sold at Tk 85 per kg. 

The price of Sonali chicken has increased again in the market. It is being sold at Tk 290 per kg with an increase of Tk 10 per kg. Broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 150 per kg. Layer chicken at Tk 240 per kg.
