Vegetable garden on fallow lands of public-private instts in Ctg: DC

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said that vegetable gardens will be planted on the fallow land of all public and private institutions in Chattogram.

He said this in a meeting organized with the heads of public and private offices of Chattogram through a zoom meeting from the district administration office on Tuesday evening.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman said, various steps should be taken on how to utilize the waste land.  Taking the initiative of using land by cultivating vegetables in the fallow land of public and private offices and houses.  He also said that if any arable land is left fallow for three consecutive years, it will be confiscated.

Deputy commissioner said that most of the offices in Chattogram district have fallow land.  Vegetable and fruit gardening should be done for the sake of using them without letting them fall.  In this, it will be possible to play an effective role in balancing the environment and land use, along with eliminating the shortage of vegetables.

He ordered all the officials and public representatives of the public and private departments under them to take effective steps to plant saplings in the next week by making the fallow lands of all offices, schools, hospitals and houses suitable for planting within the next week.

Deputy Commissioner said that financial assistance and saplings will be provided to plant vegetable and fruit gardens in the fallen land in front of the houses under the shelter project.

District Education Officer, Primary Education Officer, Forest Department, Civil Surgeon including all government and autonomous institutions have been given set target for cultivation of vegetables in fallow land of their premises. 

In that case, on Friday and Saturday, all the institutions are instructed to make the fallow land of their area suitable for cultivation.  At the same time instructions are given for vegetable gardening in the next week.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman announced in the meeting that to make this program fruitful, all institutions who show significant progress by cultivating vegetables in their area's fallow land will be awarded by determining the first, second and third places through a beautiful competition.

A large amount of cultivable land under the Forest Department, Bangladesh Railways, Water Development Board, Roads and Highways, BTMC and other large government and autonomous institutions are lying fallow;  They have been asked to ensure that all fallow lands are brought under vegetable cultivation. 

Apart from this, it was informed in the meeting that the issue of cultivation on fallow land is being monitored by the district administration all the time.
