‘Vandalising Bangabandhu sculpture means dishonour to independence’

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chattogram Mohammad Elias Hossain said that vandalising the sculpture of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman means disrespect to the independence of Bangladesh.

He added that independence, Bangabandhu and Bangladesh are all tied in the same thread. Hitting the sculpture of Bangabandhu, disrespecting the portrait of Bangabandhu means disrespecting the country, its sovereignty and the constitution.

The DC said this while addressing a protest rally of departmental and district level government officials and employees at Chattogram District Shilpakala Academy premises on Saturday to protest against the demolition of Bangabandhu's sculpture in Kushtia.

DC Mohammad Elias Hossain said, “We strongly condemn the demolition of Bangabandhu's sculpture in Kushtia on December 5. We request all the citizens of the country to show due respect to the sculptures and portraits of Bangabandhu”.

“At the same time, I call on everyone to remain vigilant aout who are involved in anti-national conspiracies. Miscreants and conspirators will not have a place on the soil of Bengal”.

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner ABM Azad, CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Chattogram Range DIG Md Anwar Hossain, Divisional Health Director Dr. Hasan Shahariar Kabir, Chittagong City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mozammel Haque and others were present on the occasion.
