Van driver beaten to death

It has been alleged that a van driver named Alamgir Hossain (40) was beaten to death by his cousins in a trivial incident at Sarishabari in Jamalpur. Meanwhile, one day after the incident on Friday (30 October) Police recovered the body of the deceased at noon. The incident took place at Kuraliapatal village in Aona union of the upazila on Thursday (October 29) evening.

The deceased was identified as Alamgir Hossain, son of late Ismail Hossain of the village. At the time of writing, the body was being prepared for autopsy.

According to police and local sources, Alamgir Hossain used to make a living by driving a van. On Thursday afternoon, Alamgir was supposed to carry his cousin Abdur Rahim’s cow hay in a van. Abdur  Rahim became angry as he was late to take the straw. 

Alamgir and Rahim had a quarrel about this in the evening. At one stage, when there was a fight between the two, Abdur Rahim, his brother Shukur Mahmud and Ranju along with some others beat Alamgir randomly with sticks. When he died on the spot, all the cousins left the body and fled.

Meanwhile, the police got the news about 20 hours after the incident. Despite trying to keep the matter under wraps all night, the police of Tarakandi Investigation Center recovered the body from the spot on Friday afternoon.

In this regard, Officer-in-Charge of Sarishabari Police Station Abu Mohammad Fazlul Karim said that his opponents had beaten him to death since the incident. The recovery of the body was delayed as the incident was not known. The body is being sent to the district morgue for autopsy. He said no one was arrested in the incident but the operation was continuing and a case was being filed.
