The United States has appreciated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership as she is committed to hold the next general election of Bangladesh in a free, fair, peaceful and credible manner. The primer was also lauded for her openness to engage international election monitors. The appreciation was made during the 9th Bangladesh-US Partnership Dialogue held at the US Department of State in Washington DC on Wednesday where key bilateral and global issues of mutual interest were discussed.

Foreign Secretary Ambassador Masud Bin Momen and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Ambassador Victoria Nuland led their respective delegations to the dialogue. During the meeting, the foreign secretary briefed his US counterpart about various measures taken by the Election Commission to pave the way for free and fair elections at both local and national levels.

On Tuesday the Deputy Principal Spokesperson at US Department of State Vedant Patel has said that US does not want to comment on Bangladesh’s forthcoming national election, noting that it is an “internal, domestic election”. The US and Bangladesh last year celebrated 50 years of diplomatic relations, and the both countries look forward to continuing to deepen those relationships.

The next general elections

will be held in the country

the way polls are being held

in other countries of the world

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is always saying that the next national election will be held as per the country’s Constitution. The government is ready to welcome foreign election observers. Bangladesh follows British’s Westminster type of democracy and it does not have any problem if election observer comes here.

We applaud the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s worthy daughter Sheikh Hasina’s bold determination and commitment to hold a free and fair election. Sheikh Hasina also wants to send a message to the foreign countries that no election under the caretaker or poll-time government will ever be held in the country.

We believe all will refrain from creating any disorder in our countryahead of fair elections. The next general elections will be held in the country the way polls are being held in other countries of the world.

We hope that the next poll will be held in a free and fair manner as the February 15-like polls will not be allowed in the country.
