1,242 cameras have been installed to strengthen and modernize the security system of Chattogram port. The US Coast Guard expressed satisfaction with the port's overall security measures. A US Coast Guard delegation visited the port recently and expressed this opinion. This information was informed in the meeting regarding the development, financial and administration of Chattogram Port held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Shipping on Sunday. State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury presided over the meeting.
Naval Ministry Secretary Mustafa Kamal along with senior officials and Chattogram Port Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan and department heads participated in the Zoom meeting. This information was informed in the press release sent from the Ministry of Shipping.
The Ministry of Shipping has informed that, in the event, the State Minister of Shipping has informed that 60 metric tons of dangerous goods have already been destroyed at the Chattogram port under the supervision of the customs authorities. 95 percent of navigable augmentation work has been completed by dredging from Sadarghat of Karnaphuli river in Chattogram Port to Bakalia Char. The rest of the work will be completed in September. Conservation dredging work will continue in that area for the next three years. Modern Public Address System (PAS) is currently in operation at various gates, sheds and yards for port security.
Shipping Minister said that the security measures have been strengthened at Pangaon Inland Container Terminal (ICT) and Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD). Emphasis is placed on installation of scanners at all gates of the port.
In order to implement the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) code, installation of container scanners at export-bound gates is underway. Procurement of necessary equipment for various yards and terminals of the port is ongoing.
Measures are being taken against unauthorized movement of bulkheads in the port limit area of the port.
