Meherpur Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Alok Kumar Das has been threatened. Meherpur-1 (Mujibnagar, Sadar Upazila) independent candidate and former two-time MP Professor Abdul Mannan allegedly issued this threat. An audio clip of one-minute and two seconds went viral on social media.
In the audio message, Prof. Abdul Mannan is heard saying to Dr. Alok Kumar Das, “I am Prof. Mannan. You are Dr. Alok Kumar Das. Are you fine coming to Meherpur from outside? You are living a very comfortable life. You have built all the houses. You have earned a lot of money. I am a good person as well as a bad person. State Minister Farhad Hossain did not give you promotion. Government has given you promotion. If I hear one more thing about voting for a minister, whether I am an MP or not, I will demolish your house in Meherpur. And if you are careful then my affection will be on you. This is what I told you, tell your minister if you can. I am the candidate of Sheikh Hasina, I am the candidate of India, you must remember this. I'm not here to lose. be careful you I won't listen to you. The report I received, I am very displeased with you, be careful”.
Sadar Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Alok Kumar Dash said, I received a call from Professor Abdul Mannan on December 17. I was threatened on that phone. But I think this is common. The matter was auto-recorded on my phone. I am a peaceful person who wants to live in peace. Now it has gone viral on social media. District Returning Officer Shamim Hasan gave the audio to Meherpur Sessions Judge Court Joint District Judge and Election Inquiry Committee President Md. Kabir Hossain.
Professor Abdul Mannan said, no one can participate in election campaign as a government official. But Dr. Alok Kumar Das always stays at the residence of Awami League candidate and State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain. That's why I tried to convince him on the phone. Someone spread it on social media to humiliate me. Even though I said that I am not a candidate of India, some parts were cut. There is a conspiracy to prove me as India's candidate.
In this regard, Awami League candidate Farhad Hossain said that what Professor Abdul Mannan has done is a violation of the election code of conduct. He cannot say this as a rebel candidate. And what he claims as the Prime Minister and candidate of another country is nothing but lies. I have submitted a written complaint to the Returning Officer regarding the matter.
District Returning Officer and District Commissioner Shamim Hasan said, after learning the matter, we have informed the Election Inquiry Committee.
