Police consecutively conducted raids and arrested two members of union council with narcotics from Bandar and Araihazar upazila in the district.
The arrested were identified as Shakil Parvej Rony, newly elected member of ward number 1 of Modonpur union council in a by-election of Bandar upazila.
The detective branch police on April 1 night conducted a raid at Andirpar area and captured Shakil with 10 bottles of phensidyl syrup.
On March 1 the Araihazar thana police raided Brahmondi area and arrested a Brahmondi union council member of ward number 3 named Shohel with 1500 doses of heroin.
Police sources claimed that the arrested Shohel member is a listed drug dealer and wanted by 12 criminal cases.
Shakil, also a drug vendor who was elected in the election, promised to give up drug peddling.
Two criminal cases have been filed with Bandar and Araihazar police station under narcotics control Acts.
