UP member killed in Habiganj

Police recovered the body of a Union Parishad member from a pond in Pukra village under Baniachang upazila of Habiganj on Tuesday. Police suspected that he was strangled to death.  The deceased was identified as Arun Das, 60, a member of ward no 2 of Pukra Union Parishad of Baniachang Upazila. He was a resident of Pukra village. 

On Tuesday (February 7th) morning, locals found the body lying by the side of the house. After the rescue, the body was sent to Habiganj Modern District Sadar Hospital morgue. He was a resident of Pukara village.Chairman of Pukra Union Parishad Anwar Hossain said Arun went to nearby Kabirpur village on Monday night and did not return. Later, his body was found in a pond near his own house. 

When asked whether Arun had enmity with anyone the Chairman said, “I do not know anything like that. However, Arun was strict against theft and robbery in the locality.” Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Selim Mia of Baniyachang Circle said it was undoubtedly a murder. Police is investigating the murder. The body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
