An UP member was killed when his motorcycle collided with a tree at Manirampur uapzila in Jashore on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Shariful Islam, 62, son of Aminul Islam of the upazila. He is member of Ward No. 5 of Shyamkur UP and president of the ward unit of Awami League.
Shariful’s son Abdur Rahman, 28, was seriously injured in the accident.
The accident took place in front of Shyamkur Secondary School in Manirampur upazila.
Police and Shyamkur UP chairman Moniruzzaman Moni confirmed the incident.
Rafiqul Islam, officer in charge Monirampur Police Station, said that Shariful Islam along with his son Abdur Rahman was going to Chinatola Bazaar on his motorbike around 8.20 am. When they reached in front of Shyamkur Secondary School, the motorcycle lost control and collided with a tree.
Both father and son were seriously injured. Shariful Islam died on the way to Manirampur Hospital.
Injured Abdur Rahman was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
