UP chairman repairs 3 km road with his own fund

A Union Parishad chairman in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila had set an example repairing three kilometer long road in Kalicharanpur union (UP). Now the vehicles have been plying on the road, school and college students moving there smoothly and the businessmen have been running their trade smooth. The said workaholic man was Kalicharanpur UP chairman Jahangir Alam.

Locals said three kilometer length Hamdah-Tikari road was damaged about a few years back for lack of maintenance. As many smaller and larger size potholes and ditches developed on the roads, most of the traffic vehicles suffered difficulties navigating through the road. The school and college students were facing an untold sufferings and the businessmen almost stopped trading in the locality. Realizing the situation the UP chairman started repairing the road with personal fund where he did not seek any government assistance for the welfare activities.

Kalicharanpur UP chairman Jahangir Alam when contacted said he had submitted proposals to the authorities to repair the road at an early date to remove the sufferings of the people. But his effort was lost in vein. At last from his humanitarian point of view, he had decided to repair the same with his own money instead any government support. A number of day labourers were engaged in repairing the road with sand, earth and brickbats. He has been keeping his words to remove the sufferings of the people as per his election pledges, Jahangir Alam said. 

Auto-rickshaw driver Alam Sheikh said a number of drivers like him had stopped running the three wheelers on Hamdah-Tikari road for its dilapidated condition for a long. Now they have started moving on the same road as it was under repairing now.

Manika Khatun, Oishy Khatun and Namita Biswas, all school students when contacted said the newly repaired road is a blessings for them as they had resumed attending classes regular. College boys Manirul Islam and Gour Chandra when contacted expressed the same opinion, said now they have been saving their time and money both as the road is once again moveable for all.
