UP chairman in Savar suspended

A local Union Parishad chairman in Savar, on the capital's outskirts, has been suspended over corruption and arbitrariness charges, confirmed by a suspension order signed by Md. Azizul Islam, Deputy Secretary of Section UP-1, local government division, issued on Thursday.

The suspended chairman named Atiqur Rahman Khan Shanto, Chairman of Kaundia union parishad. 

The suspension order stated that the authority found proved against Atiqur Rahman to embezzlement 90 percent of allocated taka 40 lakhs for a road development work from Shingshar Ali Ahmed School to Beltola Mosque, and rice allocated under TR (Test Relief) and Kabikha project in 2017-18 FY, for develop another road at the union, and all the allegation were proved beyond doubt in an investigation done by the concerned authority.

The notice further stated that following the issue, the additional divisional commissioner and the director of the local government of Dhaka recommended taking action against the chairman and he was later suspended following the recommendation.

However, Bangladesh Post correspondent could not reach Atiqur Rahman, the suspended UP chairman despite making multiple phone calls.
