The Deputy Commissioner's mobile court raided Hazari Goli area, known as the largest wholesale drug market in Chattogram. The magistrates faced obstacles when they went to conduct the operation. As soon as the campaign starts, all the drug stores are closed.
The operation was conducted from Tuesday afternoon. Two executive magistrates of the district administration, Prateek Dutta and Abdullah Al Mamun, participated in the raid. During this time unregistered drugs worth Tk 40 lakh were seized. Satata Pharmacy, Niamat Shah Pharmacy and Cal Pharma were fined Tk 80,000 for keeping physician samples at the beginning of the campaign.
Executive Magistrate Prateek Dutta said, 'At one stage of the raid, when he was trying to enter the Chabila Complex on Hazari Lane, faced obstacles. By closing the pharmacies, the owners stayed out of the market. The owners refused to open the shop despite many requests from the Market Committee, Pharmacy Owners Association and local leaders. Then another team of 12 members CMP from Kotwali police station took part in the operation.
He said, 'One of the three-storeyed and another four-storeyed warehouse of the Chabila complex had its locks broken. Unregistered drugs worth about Tk 40 lakh were found in the two warehouses. Later, the unregistered drugs seized were burnt and destroyed. Physicians samples are sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Shakhawat Hossain Akand Raju, Assistant Director of Drug Administration Department in Chattogram, was present during the operation.
Ashish Bhattacharya, Vice president of Bangladesh Chemist and Druggist Association Chittagong said, 'The reputation of Hazari Goli area business is being ruined due to two dishonest traders. We have fully cooperated in such operations of the administration and will continue to do so in the future.
Its mentioned that in the past raids conducted at Hazari Lane have always recovered fake, unregistered and physician sample drugs. Even different fake medicines are manufactured in Hazari goli area.
