In Mehendiganj upazila of Barishal district, some unscrupulous fishermen attacked the boat of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer in the Gazaria River near Sikdar Bari Ghat in Darirchar Khajuria Union of the upazila on Friday afternoon.
Mehendiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Shahadat Hossain Masud confirmed the incident and said that he along with the concerned people went on a campaign to protect hilsa by speedboat. At that time, some unscrupulous fishermen deliberately pushed the speedboat with a trawler powered by a powerful engine and fled.
The two Ansar members on the speedboat were injured and fell in the river. They were rescued later but a shotgun of an Ansar member’s sank in the river.
UNO also said that injured Ansar members Mohammad Ibrahim and Mohammad Tuhin have been given first aid. The divers of Barisal River Fire Service Station have also started searching the Gazaria river to recover the firearms.
